Archibald Prize 2015 regional tour on display at Tweed Regional Gallery

Nationally prestigious touring exhibition comes to Tweed

The winning portrait of the 2015 Archibald Prize, along with all the 2015 finalists, is part of a regional touring exhibition.  Opening on Friday January 15th 2016, the event also includes a grand Gala Opening and Cocktail party at 7pm, by Dr Michael Brand, Director  of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and the 2015 winning artist Nigel Milsom, the Gallery’s special guest.

The Archibald Prize 2015, an Art Gallery of New South Wales touring exhibition, will be on display at Tweed Regional Gallery from 15 January to 28 February 2016.

The exhibition is arguably the nation’s most famous and popular Prize, awarding $100,000 to the winning artist. Entries must be painted in the past year, from at least one live sitting with the artist.

The touring exhibition includes all 2015 finalists from the much-loved portraiture prize, held annually by the Art Gallery of NSW.

After the highly-anticipated exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the regional tour provides audiences outside of Sydney an opportunity to experience and enjoy the Archibald Prize in their local community.

In addition to viewing the popular exhibition, visitors to Tweed Regional Gallery will enjoy a range of programs associated with the Archibald Prize 2015 including voting for People’s Choice, viewing the Young Archies exhibition and participating in the Children’s Trail activity.

The Art Gallery of NSW also provides a host of online resources for visitors of the regional tour, including a mobile exhibition guide and education resources, so visitors are encouraged to bring along a mobile headset. For more information, visit

Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said the Gallery was thrilled to host the exhibition.

“It’s great to see and hear the Gallery buzzing with keen visitors and sharing their opinions on the finalists,” Ms Muddiman said.

The Gallery has made every effort to keep ticket prices affordable for all community members. Individual and family tickets to the Archibald Prize 2015 may be purchased at the Gallery on the day of your visit. School and bus groups must arrange and pay for their visit in advance on

•      Adult – $10
•      Gallery Friend or Foundation member – $7
•      Concession or child aged 5 – 17 years – $8
•      Family (2 adults and up to 3 children) – $26
•      Children under five years – free
•      Bus group booking – $8 per person
•      School/education group booking – $6 per person

Gala Opening of the Archibald Prize 2015 regional tour

Tweed Regional Gallery will host a Gala Opening of the Archibald Prize 2015 regional tour on 15 January 2016 from 7pm to 9pm (DST time).

This ticketed event includes a cocktail party and official opening by Dr Michael Brand, Director – Art Gallery of New South Wales.  Artist Nigel Milsom, the winner of the Archibald Prize 2015, will also be the Gallery’s special guest.

Tickets are $75 or $65 for Gallery Friends and Foundation members, and include catering by the Gallery Cafe. Numbers are strictly limited and bookings are essential for this event. To secure a ticket, contact the Gallery on (02) 6670 2790.
